Packing List
For a smooth journey, especially on flying safaris, it’s best to pack in soft, sturdy duffel bags, Most domestic airlines have a weight limit of 15kgs including your hand luggage. Any extra luggage weight is chargeable.
For road safaris, you get a bit more wiggle room – up to 23kgs per person. Please keep in mind that Kenya has banned plastic bags, and use of single use plastic bags in wild reserves areas! Since you’ll be spending a lot of time in the safari vehicle, comfy, loose-fitting clothes are your best friend. Here’s a guide on what to pack:
Documents:
- Passport (with visa), travel insurance documents, flight tickets, yellow fever certificate
Clothing List:
- Short-sleeve shirts or T-shirts
- Pairs of shorts
- Long-sleeve shirts for evening times (for protection from sun and mosquitoes)
- Jeans for evenings, light weight warm jacket or fleece and a light rain jacket (Morning and nights can get chilly)
- 1 sunhat with brim (to stop it from being blown off in open-top vehicles)
- Comfortable walking shoes - closed walking field shoes/boots
- Swim Suits
- Lightweight sandals or flip flops (for wearing around the camp)
- Cotton socks and underwear
- Buff, scarf or bandana (good for dust)
- Sunglasses
- Sports bra for women. Some of the roads in the reserve are not well maintained and can be quite bumpy.
Personal list:
You will definitely need your own personal items as well such as:
- Camera, battery, extra battery and plenty of memory cards –You will need this for the photos of all your precious memories!
- Chargers (for camera and phone) and a power adaptor
- Sunscreen- SPF 30 or higher (get unscented to avoid attracting insects)
- Sunglasses
- Lip balm
- Mosquito repellent
- Toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush etc.)
- Cash for tips (including driver guide and camp/hotel staff) and for souvenirs (Pls DO NOT purchase any items made from ivory).
