Beyond mountain gorillas, visitors can track habituated troops of golden monkeys, unique to the Albertine Rift, with some groups numbering over 100 individuals. The forest is also home to skittish buffalo and elephants, although sightings are rare. Other smaller animals, including bushbuck, bushpig, giant forest hogs, black-fronted duiker, and side-striped jackals, add to the diversity of wildlife within the park’s ecosystem.
